Tom Phillips - Lost on Public Safety

Well they're at it again...... Tom Phillips will be investigating the feasibility of brining in outside fire protection to protect the residents of Crafton Borough. The important thing to keep in mind here is the Crafton Vol. Fire Department is superb in the service they provide and has an outstanding record in the county. Tom Phillips' desire as well as some other members of council to bring in outside fire service is nothing more than a personal vendetta.

It is beyond my imagination how someone like Tom Phillips, spewing such ridiculous ideas was actually elected to council..... Well the answer is YOU, those of you who voted for him.

The reality is the CVFD has a very small budget, in 2009 the total borough budget was approximately 3.9 million, the CVFD accounted for about $121,000 ($25,000 of that was for hydrant rental), Police Service was $1 million, Public works was $685,000, Garbage Contract $384,000 and subtract the hydrant rental from the CVFD budget and Recreation is more at $119,000. I hope you get the point by looking at these numbers. If you want to save money, start cutting where things can be cut. Does the police department need at Police Secretary at $35,000 a year? Do other municipalities, that are comparable in size have a Police Secretary?

The CVFD supports themselves in many ways by doing their yearly fund drive and other fundraisers throughout the year. Many other boroughs in this area rely on the services, equipment, and knowledge of the CVFD, just as the CVFD relies on the mutual aide of these boroughs. The CVFD is key in protecting Crafton and an important partner in protecting the surrounding communities.

Final thought...... Mr. Phillips, you should stick to your day job.
